the weekday happy hour.

the weekday happy hour / sfgirlbybay

just before we jump into the long hectic holiday weekend, we’re partnering with Target to style up my upper backyard bonfire space for an easy weekday happy hour. it’s sometimes challenging to decorate quickly and easily on a week night, but it’s also important when you work really hard all week (and as a blogger often weekends, too!) to decompress and refuel your creative energies with like-minded friends. as creatives, a lot of my friends work long hours too, so it’s really nice to have a midweek break to get together, relax with a cocktail and just appreciate life!

we’re also spending a lot more time outdoors, to soak up the warm evening weather, so i’m adding some additional outdoor lounging space with this awesome rolston wicker double chaise – with cute and super comfy black ikat throw pillows. i plan on spending a lot of time relaxing with friends up here all summer long! and when the sun goes down and happy hour goes more than an hour, i’ll be turning on the globe lights and lighting candles in my blown glass lanterns for an extra glow around the fire pit.

i thought i’d share some super easy cocktail and small bite ideas you might find come in handy for low stress, last minute get-togethers. one of my favorite and definitely most refreshing cocktail recipes is this watermelon lime margarita – tastes so fresh and delicious, and best of all it’s so easy to make. serve it with some lime-salt rimmed glasses and it’s very, very good going down. i’m adding some guacamole and chips and my homemade salsa served in Target’s geometric print bowl and serving plates and serving our watermelon margaritas in threshold clear tumblers with some cute sipping straws. easy-peasy and you’re ready to celebrate in laid-back summer style. cheers, everyone and oh, and have a happy 4th too!

watermelon margarita recipe / sfgirlbybay

to make the watermelon lime margarita, you’ll need the following:

    • 1 large watermelon
    • 3 limes (or concentrated lime juice to taste – about 1/2 cup)
    • a handful of fresh mint
    • your favorite tequila

• Chop up your watermelon in small chunks. Add mint, lime juice and watermelon to high-speed blender or food processor. Blend on high for a good minute and until watermelon has liquefied and mint has broken down. If the liquid still seems pulpy, you can strain it. You can make the mixture in advance and keep cold in a pitcher the fridge for a couple of days.

• rim your glasses with lime juice and dip in salt

• add crushed ice to the glasses and add 1 oz of tequila

• add 3-4 ounces of watermelon mixture to glasses and stir well

• add a straw, a lime wheel, a sprig of mint and enjoy!

harlow & grey.

harlow & grey / sfgirlbybay

our dear friend jeanne chan (of shop sweet things) and her event designer cousin gloria wong tritasavit (of gloria wong design) recently launched a gorgeous and modern line of party goods and we are excited to share these with you! inspired by their love of fashion, graphic design and pop culture, the harlow & grey collections allow individuals to beautifully entertain with plenty of ease, confidence and style.

after planning countless celebrations and family gatherings over the years, both jeanne and gloria saw a huge void in the market for chic and disposable partyware for their stylish soirees. soon after they combined their talents and the idea for harlow & grey was born. the pieces featured here are from the goddess collection-a refined, polished and elegant line inspired by today’s modern woman. i love the palette and textures that were chosen. and the beauty of this collection is that it can be used for both adult and children’s celebrations.

abc carpet & home’s sublime summer sale.

if i had to choose just one favorite store in the whole wide world i know it would have to be new york city’s abc carpet & home. any visit i make to new york must include an idyllic and leisurely afternoon of exploring every floor of their beautiful six-floor Manhattan flagship showroom followed by a long, lazy lunch in the abc kitchen where i can sit, think and absorb all that inspiration. abc’s collections are unique and bespoke – an eclectic mix of bohemian modern and vintage-inspired – just my jam. the annual abc carpet & home summer sale is on and they very kindly invited me to share a little summer love with y’all. i couldn’t think of anything more beautiful than styling up an indoor picnic spread against a mix of a few of their stunning and one-of-a-kind rugs.

i paired this amazing handwoven vintage moroccan wool rug with a mod ‘flower power’ pattern for our top layer – wow! i then followed it with this unique geometric black & pink nomad vintage flat weave wool rug inspired by the colors, cultures, and landscapes of the eastern deserts – sigh – i’m quite sure this one wants to live with me permanently. and lastly, i added the bara bara vintage wool rug – an eccentric work of art, this collection brings the perfect mix of bohemian eclecticism to any space. the abc carpet & home sale is on through july 17th and there are gorgeous offerings up to 70% off! happy summer sale, indeed!

i’m such a fan of paris-based photographer julie ansiau. her photography is bright, beautiful and a little bit whimsical, and even with decor images like these, the styling gets just a little bit playful. julie shoots for elle, figaro and milk magazines, just to name a few. she also keeps a blog, blog des fruits des fleurs etc. with updates on her latest projects – these are just a few of her very inspiring decor images.

cool vibes for warm days.

it’s been record high temps for L.A. in june these past two weeks, and wouldn’t you know it but my AC decides to go kaput on me. lucy’s panting on the floor and i’m working practically naked whilst positioned directly in front of the fan. ugh. 108 temperatures last monday sent me in search of cool, calm and collected decor looks to ease my sweaty pain. all these spaces seem to bring down the heat whilst still looking good – cool vibes for warm summer days is what we need – lots of rattan, ikat and Moroccan prints -and neutrals for keeping the room in a calming comfort zone that is much needed right now. let’s chill, shall we?
